More details

Cyndan Fire Retardant Liquid is a clear penetrating fire-retardant solution for use on all softwood timbers.

Fire Retardant Liquid is a single component treatment that inhibits the spread of fire in its initial stage by isolating the combustible materials from the flames. A minimum of 2 coats required. The product can be stained and sealed with either Water or Oil based treatments.

When tested by the CSIRO (see Certificate in Download section) rediata pine samples treated with Fire Retardant Liquid satisfied the requirement for bushfire-resisting timber specified in AS 3959:2009 Construction of Buildings in bushfire prone area Appendix F F1 and F2(a).

As per clause F1 of Appendix F, this means timber coated with Fire Retardant Liquid will be deemed to be acceptable to withstand exposure up to a BAL-29 conditions.

The CSIRO testing was not subjected to the weathering procedure of ASTM D2898 Method B as specified by Appendix F F2(b) of AS 3959. At the discretion of the regulatory authority, this material may be approved for use in situations where it is protected from the weather as referred to in Appendix F F2(b) of AS3959. This refers to the timbers being covered by a roof protection (or similar) at 30 degrees or greater to the vertical and they are well detailed and maintained (i.e. painted or stained after the Fire Retardant Liquid is first applied) and kept well ventilated.
