More details

Cyndan Timber Protection Solution is ideal for all natural timbers and is especially suited for application to teak used in a marine environment. The treatment bonds and penetrates the fibres of the timber to form a tough protective barrier that resists water penetration, thus reducing cracking and UV degradation.

Marine Teak Application
Teak is a very dense hardwood that has one of the highest oil and wax contents of any tree. This makes teak quite durable for outdoor use. The wood is naturally resistant to rot and the oil that is in the wood prevents attack by termites and other wood eating pests.
However, teak does dry out, and requires continued support to maintain its resilience. The grey colouring, which teak degrades to, is brought about by the naturally occurring oils and waxes drying out and the cellulose that is left behind reacting with oxygen in the air. Older teak can also take on a washboard appearance brought about by continual cleaning with harsh chemical cleaners.

Preparation
In order to protect the timber it must firstly be prepared. Initially what must be done is to clean and restore the timber to its natural state. The best product to clean badly soiled and damaged timber is Cyndan Timber Mate. After the application of this deep cleansing product a light sanding may be necessary, depending on the condition of the timber. After preparation is complete move to protection.

Protection
Timber Protection Solution is a unique formulation of natural oils with UV filters, binders and mildew retardants. Treated timber is also more water repellent than non treated timber, thus increasing its life. Timber Protection Solution is especially made for the harsh Australian environment, where UV degradation is far greater than any where else in the world.
Tests have shown outstanding protection over 18 months. Light sanding and a reapplication restore previously protected timber to its original condition. The protection process begins with the before mentioned preparation step. The best application procedure is to apply liberal amounts of Timber Protection Solution by spray or brush and then work it into the timber with a rag. Any excess can be removed with a dry rag, after allowing 10 to 20 minutes for the product to penetrate.

Coverage
Depending on the condition of the timber you may use up to 1 litre per 8 square metres. A second application on dry timber may be advisable. The resultant finish is a natural low sheen, non slip, beautifully toned timber.
Storage and shelf life – store in original containers and reseal container after use. Store away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Do not allow freezing, do not expose to temperatures above 50°C. Shelf life if stored in accordance with storage instructions – 12 months.
